Turing Patterns in Photoshop

In 2015, I wrote a paper entitled “Turing Patterns in Photoshop” that was included in the Conference Proceedings of Bridges, an annual conference that brings together the worlds of art and mathematics. My paper is about how the mathematics behind certain image processing actions like blurring and sharpening are equivalent in some ways to Alan Turing’s “reaction-diffusion” process described in his 1952 paper, “The Chemical Basis of Morphogenesis”.
