Under the Influence

I’m very excited to have my painting “After the Dance” included in the Gallery 14C group show, “Under the Influence.” The exhibition features “artists inspired by other artists”. Each piece in the show will be hung alongside a reproduction of the work that inspired it. After the Dance is–perhaps you can tell–inspired by Matisse’s Dance (I) from 1909 in the permanent collection at MoMA. To make this painting, I started with a photograph I had taken of Matisse’s painting and then turned it into a Turing Pattern through a process of repeated blurring and sharpening in Photoshop. Finally, I painted the piece using colors similar to the ones in the original.

There will be an opening reception at Gallery 14C on the 2nd floor at 157A 1st Street in Jersey City on October 3 from 5-8pm and the show runs through January 11, 2026. The gallery is open Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4pm or by appointment.
